Rare Allegorical Civil War Broadside

Fascinating allegorical broadside, showing 3 cats in a milk saucer, superimposed over a map of the South.

The center white cat, Old Abe, is a reference to Abraham Lincoln. To the right, the gray cat represents Jefferson Davis, with a rope around his neck and the chord seemingly cut. At the left is the black cat of Contraband, the term used to describe escaped slaves after their capture by Union troops in order not to have to return them to their owners under the terms of the Fugitive Slave Act of 1850.

A very rare and historically fascinating view.
