Relief Map of the Ocean Floor / Chart of the Marine World

Fascinating map of the ocean floor, illustrating the topography of the seabeds for "Young Explorers".

The map was issued as a supplement to My Weekly Reader, issued shortly after the expedition of the Bathyscaph Trieste to survey to survey the ocean floor in 1960.

Includes a chart of the marine world on the verso, focused on sea life and the relative depths at which they live.

Trieste was a Swiss-designed, Italian-built deep-diving research bathyscaphe which reached a record depth of about 10,911 meters (35,797 ft) in the Challenger Deep of the Mariana Trench near Guam in the Pacific. On January 23, 1960, Jacques Piccard (son of the boat's designer Auguste Piccard) and US Navy Lieutenant Don Walsh achieved the goal of Project Nekton. It was the first manned vessel to reach the bottom of the Challenger Deep.
