Map of Oil and Gas Fields State of Oklahoma

First published in January 1937, the map is revised to February 1938.

A rare and detailed map of oil and gas development in Oklahoma, by the Commercial Oil Map Co. of Oklahoma City.

The map was compiled from information collected by the Oklahoma Geological Survey, the U.S. Geological Survey, and several consulting geologists. It identifies numerous oil and gas pools, fields, wells, and wildcat locations across the state, and includes a complete index to oil and gas fields, keyed to platted map locations. The panhandle is shown in an inset on the same scale at bottom left. Little information about the publishing firm is available, and only one other map by them, of oil fields in Kansas printed in 1937, is recorded.

The map identifies:

  • Gas Pools or Fields
  • Oil Poos or Fields
  • Dry Wildcat wells
  • "Show of Oil"
  • "Show of gas"
  • Wildcat locations

The map includes a list of several hundred oil fields, including names and map coordinates.

The map includes a list of sources, including:

  • Oklahoma Geological Survey
  • US Geological Survey
  • State Corporation Commission Records
  • Various Company and Consulting Geologists
