Plantations on the Mississippi River From Natchez to New Orleans 1858.

Fine limited edition copy of Norman's Chart of the Mississippi River from Natchez to New Orleans, also known as the Persac map.

The map shows the divisions of land with owners’ names, vignettes of New Orleans, Baton Rouge and plantations, the decorated border composed of cotton plants and sugar cane.

Originally created by Marie Adrien Persec. In 1858, the New Orleans Crescent described Persec's original map as offering a perfect picture of the windings of the Father of Waters from this city to Natchez, with every plantation on its banks, drawn out and colored, with the name of the owner and whatever name he may have given his plantation." And Mr. Persac" descended the river in a skiff, landing at every mile, and drawing every plantation line and taking down every name and landmark on both banks of the river, and deserves the highest credit for his very able and useful labor."

The map was printed by Rand McNally & Company in 1931, for the Pelican Book Shop of New Orleans. The present example is "No. 27."

The map was drawn by Joseph Aiena of the Art Department of the Chambers Agency. A later example was re-issued by Pelican Book Store in 1961 and again in 1967.
