Heinie Lawrence's Rare Allegorical Map of Drink from the Finals Days of Prohibition.
Unusual pictorial map, celebrating the joy of drink, issued toward the end of the American Prohibition Era (1920-1933).
The map is ornately illustrated with subtle and not so subtle vignettes celebrating alcohol. Jefferson shows an island in the shape of a human skull, referred to as the State of Inebriation, surrounded by the Gulp Stream and Prohibition Sea.
The Prohibition sea includes several clever vignettes, most notably the shipwreck of the 18th Amendment (Prohibition), "Sinking into Oblivion", with its primary advocate, Andrew J. Volstead, high on the mast, going down with the ship.
At the top right, the image is illuminating by "Moon Shine".
At the center of the island, Lake Champagne is inhabited by a pair of naked females (Pink Ladies or Eye Openers).
Every inch of the map is packed with anti-prohibition puns and liquor references.
The map is scarce on the market.
