Heubinger's Map of the City of Des Moines Iowa Showing Streets, Parks, Public Buildings, etc. . . . 1910 . . .

Fine large map of Des Moines, Iowa, published by Melchior Huebinger, Civil Engineer, of Des Moines Iowa and the Iowa Publishing Company.

Published as a promotional map for the Merchant Transfer & Storage Company, the map elegantly differentiates between developed land in orange and undeveloped areas, parks etc., in green.

Concentric circles radiate outward from the center of Des Moines and its courthouse. Numerous public and private downtown structures are noted, including Theaters, Library, Coliseum Fire Stations, Hotels, Post Office and Railroad Depots. Across the River is the Iowa State Capitol complex. Multiple railroad lines are also shown.

Huebinger was a German immigrant cartographer and surveyor . His mapping of Iowa and Illinois spanned from the 1880s to the 1920s and included the production of vanity subscription atlases, military, flood, geologic and soil maps, production of general purpose state atlas, early automobile maps and route guides, and culminated in his incredible twenty dollar 1912 Good Roads Automobile Atlas of Iowa.
